Family life spans the spectrum of laughing to crying and from big events to tiny interactions. My documentary approach follows the photojournalistic tradition of not altering or influencing what's going on in front of me. I have two main reasons for this:
Maybe it’s just me but I think one reason we love family photos is that they help us feel seen and validated. I think this only works if our family photos look and feel like real life – not unrealistic posed versions of our family life. That way, when you are in the middle of your fun craziness on a typical day, you know what this must look like – awesome.
I think the most beautiful moments are those that are authentic and candid. The way that your child laughs when you make that silly face or that weird (but sweet) way your partner holds your hand – that is not something that I can pose. They’re perfect as they are.

Documentary Family Sessions
So, what is a documentary family session like? It’s easy: just play.

I can help you brainstorm some activities but you already know what you and your people love to do – so just do that! It's my job to beautifully capture the moments between you: how you play together, how you laugh together, how your one kid takes any free moment to practice his Michael Jackson impersonation.
Each session length can be had for a fee. Each length comes with a different amount of images and extras.
2 hours

A good first experience for seeing how easy and fun this sort of photography can be for you and your family. Low stakes, no stress = fun.
You get all the great images as full-resolution files.
4 hours

The two-hour session is just a gateway drug to a deeper portrait of you and your loved ones that can be had with either a four-hour session or something longer. With a four-hour session, I can photograph your everyday routines and some special types of play but also the quieter (and very loud!) moments that make up your daily life in all of its chaotic beauty.
You get all the good images as full-resolution files. Also, a slideshow set to music that is super postable.

Sun up to sun down. Eyes open to eyes shut. You will love seeing the chaos of the morning routine and the sweetness of the bedtime routine. Oh, and all of that stuff in between, of course. The hugs, the kisses, the meltdowns. It's all a part of your normal day and this series of images that comes from it will be the most beautifully authentic portrait you've ever seen.
You get all the good images as full-resolution files, a slideshow, and a photobook.
